Bicycle Dream
"Bicycle
Dream" of Celine Dion
"One
night I had a dream. I was coming home after school.
I didn't have my bicycle. I was running. Very fast. All of a sudden
I felt incredibly light. And everything started happening
in slow motion, my strides got larger and larger, as if
I were running on a rubberized surface. And I was extraordinarily
happy. I have never forgotten that dream. Even today when
I think about it, I can still recapture a little of the extraordinary
sensation it gave me". Celine Dion. "My
Story, My Dream".page 35.
Interpretation
"School"
- Notice, in the dream Celine is coming home from school. How
does it feel when you are leaving behind something that you have
never been able to enjoy? It feels great, and the pace is getting
faster and bigger too. Celine never liked going to school. She
had very few friends from her class, and let's face it - she was
not a great student.
"Home"
- On the contrary - home was always fun. Lots of music, self-directed
shows, etc. Celine was a very imaginative girl. She used to perform
in front of a mirror, imitating great singers. Her home, was her
concert hall, and the journey there felt like a long-deserved
break.
"Rubberized
surface" - It is a symbol of a strong hold, confidence
and connection to the earth. It is Celine's Mom who was at that
time maybe the only source of a very strong hold and support.
"Large
strides" - a sense of speed, and expectation. Celine
is moving full speed ahead towards something exciting, unknown
but safe.
This
is a simple dream based on the feeling of expectation. Obviously,
Celine remembers this particular childhood dream because she has
experienced that same "extraordinary feeling of lightness
and happiness" later in her adult life again, and that
brought a long-forgotten dream. A new experience may bring old
memories. What could bring this memory back? Many things - a journey
back home from a long tour when you haven't seen your family when
you sit in your car and imagine how they are going to meet you;
a journey to the stage, with a microphone in your hands and the
butterflies in your stomach, when there's only one step that separates
you from the stage, from the roaring audience, TV cameras, and
most of all - freedom of voice, and a zero-gravitation. Fly.
